Masha Gessen is a Russian-American journalist, the author of eight books of nonfiction, including "The Man Without a Face: The Unlikely Rise of Vladimir Putin" and the upcoming "Where the Jews Aren't: The Sad and Bizarre Story of Birobidzhan, Russia's Jewish Autonomous Region." She writes for The New York Times, The New Yorker, and the New York Review of Books, among other publications. She lives in New York City.
