Amir Shaviv has been a Senior Executive at the American Jewish rescue and relief body, The Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) for 28 years. During this time he took part in the planning and implementation of International rescue operations such as Operation Solomon (Jews from Ethiopia), Operation Abraham (from Syria), Rescue of Yemen Jews, and many non-sectarian rescues from the besieged city of Sarajevo. In the final years of the USSR (1989-1991)he managed the team of JDC operators who reached out to Soviet Jews and pioneered the return of JDC programs to Russia and its republics.
